5 Reasons Why Forex Prop Traders Are Trying Futures

Today more traders than ever before are starting to also leverage their skills in the futures market at the same time. They’re seeking not only more transparency, but confidence that when they do trade well, they’ll get paid as promised. No surprise breaches, delayed payouts, or frozen funds.

Here are just a few reasons why traders are trying futures in 2024…

Reason #1: US Futures
Markets Are Regulated

With no central regulating exchange, forex is often referred to as the “Wild West” with firms popping up overnight and doing anything they want. From “B Booking” and CFD’s (illegal here in the states), to firms running your stop or randomly denying payouts, the lack of regulation in forex equates to increased risk on the shoulders of the trader.

On the other side, The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is the federal government agency which regulates all U.S. derivatives markets, futures included. In futures, the market is regulated and transparent. There are real consequences for unethical behavior.

Reason #2: Little To No
Slippage In Futures

Often when trading forex, the gap between your expected price and your actual fill price can instantly put you behind on a trade. Slippage and unpredictable spreads cause problems even for the most seasoned traders.

In futures, since you’re trading on a centralized exchange (CME), orders are matched in an orderly and transparent manner. What you see is typically what you get. You won’t get filled at a random price which helps your broker (or prop firm), but hurts you. The more straightforward and ethical fills mean your trades have the ability to both start and end better.

Reason #3: Futures
Accounts Are Cheaper

"I like that I can pay less for the same leverage” is something we hear often from our traders who now trade both forex and futures. Below is an example of a leading forex competitor and a $50k TPT futures account.

You could purchase four $50k futures accounts for the same cost of just one $50k forex account. And yes, here at Take Profit you can “copy trade” accounts and combine your leverage. With futures you can save money by paying less for the same potential return. Or simply trade both to maximize your options.

Reason #4: Day-One PRO Payouts

Many forex firms require two phases prior to becoming funded. For example, it’d take four days to pass the first phase, then four more days to pass the second phase. So at the very earliest, it would take no less than eight days to get funded. Then you’d still have to wait 14 days to have your payout processed.

We allow everyday payouts because everyone’s trading story is different. Some do this full-time, some trade before work, some trade in their spare time or when the kids are asleep. Which is why we believe everyone should be able to withdraw profit when it’s convenient for them, not just when it’s convenient for the firm.

Reason #5: Similar Products & Platforms

If someone can trade forex, they can trade futures. “A chart is a chart is a chart” as some of our forex traders say. In fact, those who can trade a CFD or currency pair, can find a chart with very similar price action in futures. The products are often that similar.

In fact, CFD’s are derivatives just like futures, and both track an underlying financial instrument. Since CFD’s are illegal in the United States, futures are the gold standard for traders to access popular indices and commodities (S&P500, Dow, Nasdaq, Gold, Oil, Nat Gas, etc). Futures allow you to trade the world’s largest indices without all the “games.”

Plus while MetaTrader is no longer available to US forex prop traders, you can still use TradingView for futures which most people find to be more modern and user-friendly anyways.
